Do you believe that Monkey King really exist?

Wu Kong is being worshipped in some chinese temples..... just that it's not an organised religion... I mean, you know we chinese people have like thousands of gods and minor deities to pray to, Wu Kong is one of them... XD

they do kind of warship monkey tho he is not a god.. they treat him as one tho.... They have a festival like once a year... and celebrate some of the things he went threw.. I don't care to watch it my self,since i am kinda squeamish.. but they do things like climb a latter of sharp blades.. and other such things i would weather not think about lol >.<

nay... JTTW is not entirely accurate.. its mostly a story i think.. I think JTTW was actually based on a real life event pluss some rumors the author had heard from others mixed in and mixed with myth. So i heard or something similar anyway..

My thoughts are a little out of this world.. so ill leave them to my self.. but I could go gather up my info I had read. :F

but people do it all the time.. mixing storys with myth.. or even real life events with myth.. sometimes in order to explain things that normaly couldn't happen...

Journey to the West was based on the pilgrimage of the Buddhist monk Xuan Zhuang who went to India to fetch back Buddhist scriptures from the original source as the Chinese translations they had back then SUCKED like HELL. So he did. And managed to survive all sorts of shit. He was alone when he went. When he came back to China a lot people came with him but most of them died on the way because of the dangerous journey. He then made awesome accurate translations of all the scriptures. Because of this amazing feat his story became widely known.

Simultaneously there were tales of Hanuman (from Ramayana) coming in from India as well as legends of the monkey totems of some Chinese clans. Then someone wrote a long epic poem thingie about Xuan Zhuang's journey, heavily fictionalized, with a monkey companion and a sandman. Thus the stories from different sources began to converge until the definite, most popular version was written up by Wu Cheng En. Later it was adapted into a play in the Yuan dynasty.

It is meaningless to say that JttW is accurate or inaccurate. It is a work of fiction, blended from various historical events and myths. You could say that a particular fact is accurate in accordance with the canon of the novel itself, but that's it. Of course, there are been various manuscripts of the book with some variations in each but generally we refer to accuracy in reference to the most popular version that's out there right now. Leave nitpicking about details to the literary researchers. ^o^

Oh yeah, they do worship him. I've seen a temple around here somewhere. Geez people even worship Confucius and he was definitely human. LOLz
